CONCERT FORMAT:
We present a most aptly timed concert of all-Russian classical music, following on the heels of our own presidential inauguration, and amidst international controversies. Immerse yourself in music and poetry expressing artists’ loves, fantasized reflections, and despair, fight, and resistance to social abnormalities, played out in so many 20th century Russian lives, continuing in to contemporary times.
We play music expressing wordless emotions, found in the creative energies of nature traversing Scriabin’s 2nd Piano Sonata, conjured by the deeply Russian and expatriated Rachmaninoff, and unleashed from viscerally compelling cello works by Arvo Part.
Complementary writings will be spoken in both Russian and English, and we draw further from the artistic well of great composers with works that are directly inspired by the Russian people’s poets, Marina Tsvetayeva, Anna Akhmatova, Boris Pasternak and others.
A shared talk and reception follows the performance – please stay a few moments to share your thoughts with us!
